For 39 years, Walter worked as a flooring installer, building a career through hard work an dedication.
In May 2022, Walter's life changed when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He underwent surgery and remained hopeful as he focused on recovery. But in April 2024, the cancer returned, bringing a new set of challenges. Walter has endured 38 rounds of radiation treatment and is currently receiving chemotherapy infusions as he continues his fight.
As his treatments intensified, Walter was no longer able to work. After nearly four decades in the flooring industry, he was forced to step away from the profession he had dedicated his life to. The loss of income, combined with mounting medical concerns, quickly created financial hardship. Past-due rent and utility bills became a growing source of stress during an already overwhelming time.
During this difficult chapter, the Floor Covering Industry Foundation stepped in with a grant to help cover past-due rent, electric and water bills, as well as ongoing monthly housing and utility expenses. The assistance provided stability and relief, allowing Walter to focus on his health and treatment rather than the fear of losing his home.
Walter shared, "The grant has truly been a blessing. It has given me peace of mind and allowed me to focus on my health and recovery."
Today, Walter continues his journey surrounded by the support of family, friends, and a flooring industry community that cares deeply for its own. Through FCIF's assistance, he has been able to focus on what matters most- his health, his recovery, and the hope for brighter days ahead.
